Mat is a specialist civil and commercial litigation lawyer based in Auckland. He has acted in a range of civil and commercial disputes, including in relation to insolvency, construction, contract, shareholder, employment and property-related matters. He has particular experience in dealing with complex litigation, providing accurate and timely advice to clients seeking to resolve difficult issues.
His experience includes:
- Acting for finance companies in disputed mortgagee sales processes, including defending urgent injunctions and pursuing applications to remove caveats
- Obtaining injunctive relief, including freezing and ancillary orders, for various companies and other entities
- Acting for liquidators and other insolvency professionals in a range of insolvency based claims
- Acting for both landlords and tenants on a variety of commercial lease disputes, in court and in arbitration
- Acting for builders and homeowners in adjudications under the Construction Contracts Act
- Acting on a range of regulatory and criminal investigations for both individuals and companies
- Assisting with the defence of a large-scale directors’ duties claim
Mat enjoys working with clients to try to resolve problems before they arise, but if further action is necessary will advocate for their interests in a commercial and steadfast manner. He will work with clients to identify strategic imperatives and chart the best course of action in response.
Mat currently serves as a member of the New Zealand Law Society’s National New Lawyer Group and is also on the board of a non-government organisation in the criminal justice sector.
