Senior appointments further boost national corporate law bench-strength

Partner Ellen Sewell and Special Counsel Maggie Chang have joined Lane Neave to bring further senior capability to the national corporate team.

Ellen joins the firm with previous Partner experience at another national law firm and Maggie from senior in-house and private practice legal roles.

Following the recent acquisition of the boutique Auckland business and commercial law firm Clendons, these two new senior appointments bring the national corporate team headcount to 22.

“We remain in focused growth mode, adding to the reach and capability of our teams to better service our growing client base,” says Andrew Shaw, Lane Neave Managing Partner.

“High-calibre specialists deliver high-calibre outcomes for our clients and these two appointments are certainly technically outstanding.

“I am particularly delighted to welcome Ellen back to Lane Neave. She was previously an integral part of our corporate team for almost five years, and she’s returned to Lane Neave with even deeper expertise in this specialist legal area.”

Ellen’s extensive and broad-ranging legal expertise extends from mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, front-end construction contracts and information technology through to general commercial contracts.

“We’re thrilled to welcome her back and to recognise her drive and capability by having her join the partnership in Christchurch,” says Shaw.

Ellen’s appointment brings the number of Lane Neave Partners to 25, including seven who provide specialist corporate, and banking and finance law expertise across all four Lane Neave offices.

Maggie Chang will join the fast-growing Auckland Corporate team. She comes from Partner experience in a trans-Tasman law firm, and has previously practised in top-tier law firms in New Zealand and Australia – as well as in-house in the pharmaceutical industry.

Maggie has considerable experience and interest in private mergers and acquisitions, and in the early-stage, venture capital space.

“Maggie is extremely well qualified and now boasts more than 13 years of specialist experience,” says Shaw.

“She has a very strong client service focus which will serve her and our clients well as she evolves the next stage of her career at Lane Neave.”
