Lane Neave is proud to reveal that two of its Partners, Fiona McMillan and Rebecca Scott, have been recognised as Elite Women in NZ Lawyer’s annual rankings.
Selected from a pool of high achievers, these awards celebrate innovative thinking, leadership and an ability to challenge conventional beliefs and behaviours in the legal profession.
Each nominee is required to demonstrate a passion for the law, with the judging panel looking at individual contributions to the workplace and society.
When asked about the key to her success, Employment Law Partner Fiona cites three key factors: “Firstly, the firm I am with. Lane Neave has done nothing but support me and tell me to ‘just to go for it’ with everything I have wanted to do. Secondly, my team. I am very lucky that the group of lawyers who work with me are diligent, clever and know how to have a laugh along the way. Thirdly, my clients – they have been incredibly loyal and supportive of me and my career.”
Litigation Partner Rebecca describes her career highlights as “every successful result for a client, whether that’s a win in Court or a settlement which means they can move on from a stressful time in their life”.
Diversity within the profession is important for so many reasons – as Fiona’s points out, “the clients we service are diverse; we can’t service them properly if the lawyers they interact with are all the same”.
And for young women thinking about a career in law? Rebecca advises finding “the aspect of law that you enjoy and throw yourself into it”.
