An expert in the resource consenting of nationally significant projects, Josh will provide an overview of the new fast track consenting framework and will cover:

  • pathways for projects to enter the fast-track process
  • application and information requirements
  • decision making in the fast-track process
  • benefits and risks of the fast-track process.

Hosted in collaboration with the Queenstown Business Chamber of Commerce, the free one-hour seminar is being held on Tuesday, 12 November at 9.30am.

Background

The Fast Track Approvals Bill was introduced on 7 March 2024 and is before the Environment Select Committee for review which will have reported back to the House by the time of the seminar. It is intended to streamline the process for obtaining the approvals required to undertake development/projects under various legislation, including the Resource Management Act.

The Bill was a key element of the Coalition Government agreement and marks a significant change for project approvals in New Zealand.

It is intended to be a one-stop-shop for consenting projects of regional and national significance.

As such, the proposed process would be set up to provide a wide range of approvals under the Resource Management Act, Conservation Act, Reserves Act, Wildlife Act, Public Works Act and Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga Act.
