Legal 500 rankings solidify position

In the recently released The Legal 500 Asia Pacific 2020 rankings, national law firm Lane Neave has been ranked in three categories, demonstrating capability and strength for core areas of the business.

Ranked in the categories of Labour and Employment, Banking and Finance, and Corporate and M&A, Lane Neave is now established amongst the top firms in New Zealand with nationwide presence delivering positive outcomes to an extensive client base.

Managing Partner, Andrew Shaw says consistent performance in the rankings is a strong vote of confidence for Lane Neave and he is pleased to see the rising profile for some talented lawyers.

“As specialists in their fields, these teams are widely known for their capability and expertise, and it is fantastic to have this work acknowledged amongst our peers by a global publication,” said Shaw.

The specialist nature of the Lane Neave employment practice is acknowledge with the tier two ranking in the labour and employment category, a position they have held for two years. Led by Andrew Shaw and Fiona McMillan, the team is recognised for its role on the All of Government panel providing service covering all employment plus health and safety and ACC legal issues. The team acts for a number of Government entities, multinational corporations and a national member-based associations and has clients in a range of industry sectors including tourism, energy, food processing, mining, transport, health and tertiary education.

The banking and finance team led by Evelyn Jones, is noted for its strength in property and development funding with work including acting for ANZ Bank in the acquisition of the Spark Central building in Wellington, the large scale urban village development at Alexandra Park in Auckland and a Kiwibuild development in Wellington. The practise is also acknowledged for its skills in mining finance, technology finance, credit union finance, project funding, plant development funding, yellow goods funding and off-take funding arrangements.

Rated as one the largest Corporate and M&A teams in the South Island, the team led by Gerard Dale and Claire Evans, Lane Neave’s corporate team is credited as playing a significant role in the non-bank deposit taking sector. Recently, the team handled the merger via transfer of engagements of three New Zealand-registered credit unions with Credit Union Baywide. In addition, the work of the team spans complex projects, financial markets and contract law, limited partnerships and investment funds, and work for medium-to-large listed and unlisted corporates, not-for-profits, iwi, and ministries and departments of the Crown.
