Peter is a Consultant at Lane Neave, with a focus on retirement village law, trusts and charities law, and the law of societies. His pragmatic advice and common-sense approach to issues is appreciated by clients.

Peter has advised residents, operators and Statutory Supervisors in the retirement village industry for almost 30 years.  He has regularly assisted the New Zealand Law Society, the Retirement Commissioner and the Retirement Villages Association with education and training sessions and has extensive experience as a chairperson of meetings.

Currently the Convenor of the Retirement Villages sub-committee of The Law Association of New Zealand (TLANZ) (formerly known as the Auckland District Law Society), Peter has advised Members of Parliament, Select Committees, Officials and the office of the Retirement Commissioner on policy and operational matters.  A significant amount of Peter’s time over recent years has been advising registered charities and incorporated societies about compliance with updated legislation, including running webinars for TLANZ, and public seminars for the Bank of New Zealand.

Outside work hours, Peter is a sought-after pianist, treasurer of an active charity, chairperson of a body corporate in a medium-sized unit title development, and chairperson of a charitable trust with a significant asset base. He continues to provide free legal advice to his local community through the Citizens’ Advice Bureau.

Peter is a trained mediator and is skilled in helping clients to resolve disputes.  He is also a chartered accountant and is uniquely placed in the firm to overlay legal skills with financial literacy.
